ICD Peek Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 27, 2026 · ICD Peek – ICD-10 Code Lookup on Hover, version 1.0.0

In short

  • No data leaves your browser
  • Works offline: the code list is built in
  • Settings stay on your device

ICD Peek is a browser extension that shows the description and billable status of ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it. The short version: ICD Peek does not collect, store on any server, sell or share any of your data.

What ICD Peek reads

To show a code's description, ICD Peek reads text on the web pages you visit: the text under your mouse pointer, the value of a form field you hover, text you select and right-click, and codes visible on the page (so it can underline them). This happens only inside your browser. ICD Peek looks codes up in a code list that is built into the extension.

What ICD Peek sends

Nothing. ICD Peek makes no network requests. Page content, codes, searches and settings are never sent to us or to anyone else. There are no analytics, ads, trackers or accounts.

What ICD Peek stores

Using your browser's extension storage, on your device:

  • Your settings: whether codes are underlined, whether 3-character codes are detected, and the websites where you turned ICD Peek off. If you use Chrome sync, Chrome may sync these settings between your own devices.
  • Up to 12 recently copied codes, so they show in the popup.

Removing the extension deletes this data.

Protected health information

Because ICD Peek never transmits page content, protected health information shown on screen stays on your device and within your organization's systems. ICD Peek does not create, receive, maintain or transmit protected health information on anyone's behalf.

Code data

The ICD-10-CM code list comes from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and is in the public domain. ICD Peek is not affiliated with CMS, the CDC or the WHO. ICD Peek is a lookup aid, not coding advice.

Permission

Runs on these pages
Diagnosis codes appear in many different web apps: EHRs, billing systems, clearinghouses and payer portals, each on its own domain, often on a hospital's or practice's own server. The content script must run on any page so that hovering a code shows its description there. It only reads the text under the mouse pointer and visible codes on the page, looks them up in the code list inside the extension, and never sends page content anywhere. Users can turn it off for any site from the toolbar popup.

Chrome Web Store User Data Policy

ICD Peek's use of any information it handles adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide ICD Peek's single purpose, is not sold, and is not used for advertising or to determine creditworthiness.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
